Probably most of the students heard of Erasmus-the student exchange program within Europe, but least know about the local support and activities for foreign students at the university. Besides the International Office and Welcome Centre, local Erasmus plus initiative offers additional help upon arrival at the guest university.

What does Erasmus stand for?
Erasmus is a funding program of the EU for stays abroad at universities. The organization supports the students financially and helps with the recognition of credits the so-called European Credit Transfer Systems (ECTS).
Erasmus Student Network (ESN)
Since 2019
ESN – officially the
Erasmus+ initiative found their spot at the university. As part of the Erasmus Network the non-profit association is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (
DAAD). The team is volunteering and are engaging for students in Bonn and surroundings.
Colorful program and an “unforgettable Experience”
ESN helps students to get familiar with the area- through leisure activities such as the popular Pub Quiz -students are supposed to get in touch with others. Moreover, guest students get an understanding of the German culture and history. “If you are attending an ESN Event at first you will not notice the difference between foreign students and locals” says Dilara Alacahan geology student at the university Bonn. She also likes the karaoke-nights, game evenings and trips in the area. Within a very short time there happen to be new acquaintances. Joining the events is the reason for seeing familiar faces”.
Wanted: Committed employees
If anyone is picturing themselves helping foreign students and being part of the
Erasmus team, they are welcome to apply or to get any information at the Welcome Centre of the university.
